Open BVE Train Simulator

Postby danielches » Mon Aug 03, 2009 1:38 pm

Hello,
well this forum looks pretty dead atm lol,
and tonight i started playing Open BVE, and in my opinion its just awsome, :)

Basically its a train simulator, similar to Microsoft Train Simulator, and Rail Simulator,
however its free, open source, and cross platform.

For those of you unfamiliar with train simulators, well basically they r similar to fligth simulators, just u drive a train instead of a plane, and yeah,
pretty self explanatory, :)

I've downloaded the Northern Line (http://www.trainsimcentral.co.uk/northern.htm) , and been mucking around with tube trains,
so feel free to check the game out, and discuss ur opinion of it, :)

You can download it free from;
http://openbve.trainsimcentral.co.uk/

It works on Linux, Mac and Windows.

Seems interesting. What is the challenge of train simulation?

erm i dunno, lol, whats the challenge of flight simulation?

A lot of the challenge is i guess trying to stick to the timetable, getting to stations on time etc,
there r heaps of scenarios available to play, and yeah, i guess train simulation is pretty similar to any simulation,
but i sure as hell love it lol,
:)

Well it's been a while since I played flight sims. I never actually played the civilian ones, but with military, it would be dogfighting - although landing are also tricky :P

Of course trying to dodge missiles using countermeasures is ridiculously difficult too hehe.

lol,
well yeah, where civilian flight sims have landing, train sims have making sure ur not running late, and making sure u stop at the platform (which can be surprisingly difficult to do if ur travelling at high speed, and go rushing past a station, only to realise u were meant to have stopped there lol),
:)

I'd rather play fighter jet combat sims out there. At least I get to shoot down aircraft with my weapons on board

You said "You drive a train instead of a train...". Don't you mean drive a train instead of a plane? And i agree with curriegrad2004; it's more fun playing a simulator and a game at the same time like Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X.
