Minor Outage, HD failed

Postby Max » Mon Feb 14, 2011 8:55 pm

Hello

There has been a very brief outage just now, because one of the hard drives in our RAID array has failed. The RAID error however pertained to a failure of both hard drives (luckily this is clearly not the case). The problem is still being assessed.

As a precaution, I would ask everyone to back up their databases and files.

Thanks.

Yes, as per the announcement, it would be a good idea to back up everything now.

As what cPanel states:

A full backup will create an archive of all the files and configurations on your website. You can only use this to move your account to another server, or to keep a local copy of your files. You cannot restore full backups through your cPanel interface.

You may wish to perform partial backups as cPanel supports restoring the backups made using this way.

On a side note, it's pretty moot for cPanel to provide full backups if you can't restore them in the first place.

Yours too?
My HD died this past Friday.
(currently limping along on a USB memory-stick and boot floppy)

Anyway, thanks for the warning.

cPanel full backups have never worked to the extent of my knowledge.

Instead I would opt users to separately download a home directory backup as well as database backups.
